c to tha web

my bloggity blog.

events.emit

Things have been changing a lot around here recently - new job, getting married, learning. I figured I’d write a short post all related to events in my life right now.

javascript

I absolutely love jQuery and all the goodies that come with it, including plugins. Lately I’ve been using jquery.layout and jquery.tmpl and jquery.ui to GSD, but it wasn’t until @jmar777 opened my eyes to event javascript design by showing me his event handler and running me through his code.

I immediately saw the value in the evented design and it got me excited! What a great way to manage code and to easily understand what is going on.

you emit something and it triggers something that’s on. Of course, it seems, being evented is all the rage now with node.js too, but it makes sense and hopefully I’ll be able to immediately start integrating it into the stuff I create.

good stuff.

hurricane

if you know me, you know how much I love surfing, but combine that with the fact that where i live rarely gets waves, hurricanes bring prospects of swell and fun for a predictable amount of fun (rare when you rely on some wind to blow in some chop for a few hours of surfing).

so right now a big event happening is that hurricane Irene is making her way towards us with the promise of some bigguns. I can’t wait to get out in the water for some sufing!

hackathon

this weekend SPARC is hosting its first annual hackathon contest for mobile development. This event is going to be awesome with all the talent that will pool into one building.

I’m excited to see this event happen and to see what people come up with. I’ve been really wanting to dive into mobile dev but haven’t really had the time to actually try things out…so this event should give me some good pointers from some good peeps.

a few years ago i would have told you that charleston is lacking in the tech community, but boy has that changed! if you know me, then you know that i love networking with other devs, creatives and general techies in charleston and this event is one i don’t want to miss!

knowing a few folks on the roster to compete this weekend, it should be interesting to see what they come up with!

wedding

and finally the biggest event of them all, at least for me, is the fact that I will be getting married in about a week and a half to my better half, Anne Marie!

wedding planning is both stressful and expensive, but I never realized how awesome it will be to have all of my good friends and family in one special place! http://www.iloveannemarie.com

blogging

it’s definitely a new event for me to start blogging again, but I am really liking octopress for its simplicity and no nonsense. I hope that since i can blog where i usually work on a computer (sublime/komodo ide’s) I won’t have to worry about logging in, fighting spam, worrying about pageload, formatting my posts, etc. so here’s to more posts!
